Job Description

Our client is a professional design consultancy who provide industrial and mechanical product design and development services to their varied client base. They are looking to acquire the services of an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join their team on a permanent basis. The purpose of this role is to be the standalone ‘custodian’ of the H&S remit, monitoring adherence to related policies and procedures and ensuring the safety of employees at all times. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with proven H&S experience who wants to work locally to Warwick and within a professional services environment.

Please note: This role will be 5 days a week onsite at their Warwick Office so you must live locally to Warwick. The successful candidate will be issued with a parking permit so that you are able to park for free in the centre of Warwick if you are a car driver.

Main responsibilities:

  • Act as the first point of contact for all general H&S queries and continue to champion employee’s protection against the risks of COVID-19.
  • Effectively develop, document and implement updates to the company’s Health and Safety policy documents.
  • Monitor and audit business activities in all areas related to health and safety against an agreed audit schedule.
  • Create and review risk management documents. Propose and implement control measures as a result of these risk assessments.
  • Maintain the company’s fire policy, equipment and procedures, including organising fire drills and weekly fire alarm testing.
  • Plan and effectively carry out training sessions in relation to H&S matters, including inductions, noise awareness, handling and lifting, and SWP training.
  • Ensure full health, safety and fire legislative compliance of all contractor activity on the premises, including the application of Permits to Work.
  • Assist with formulating the annual H&S budget and manage spend against the budget accordingly.
  • Distribute and record the PPE to all staff.
  • Approve any COSHH related purchases and maintain safety data sheets in line with the COSHH policy.
  • Maintain all the Health and Safety files, both electronic and hard copies.
  • Take responsibility for the delivery of specific H&S related projects and new initiatives as agreed with the Board.
  • Maintain the KPIs for H&S and use these for preparing management reports to present at Board Meetings on a monthly basis.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience working as a Health and Safety Advisor or similar role within a small to medium sized business operating within a professional services, office environment.
  • Strong knowledge of H&S management systems and UK H&S legislation.
  • NEBOSH qualified.
  • Member of IOSH (Desirable).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability in delivering projects, objectives and services against agreed deadlines and with the agreed performance objectives.
  • Ability to influence and engage with a highly qualified and technically skilled workforce.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work using your own initiative.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to produce concise and accurate records and reports with a high level of attention to detail.
