Job Description

Our client is an innovative and dynamic luxury retail brand, who have enjoyed phenomenal success over the past 10 years. Due to continued growth, they are looking to recruit an outgoing, proactive and highly compliant Health and Safety Specialist to join their wider Facilities team. The purpose of this role is to develop and maintain processes, provide advice and guidance across all aspects of Health and Safety across different working spaces, including warehouses, office spaces and people working remotely at home. The successful candidate will enjoy overseeing health and safety continuous improvement, developing and rolling out training, and using knowledge and research skills to advise on requirements and best practices. In return, you will work for a very successful, fast growing SME sized business where you can truly make an impact and have a positive influence on shaping the internal H&S culture.

Please note: This is a site-based role so the successful candidate will need to live within a daily commuting distance from Banbury. The working hours are 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday.

Health and Safety Specialist Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively review and provide recommendations for H&S policies and processes.
  • Provide H&S advice to staff at all levels, proactively making recommendations as the business grows to ensure H&S compliance.
  • Keeping on top of H&S priorities, ensuring that resolutions are promptly implemented.
  • Work with the HR team to develop processes from a H&S perspective.
  • Manage the Health and Safety Officer supporting where needed with day-to-day H&S priorities, making sure that priorities are followed up efficiently.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate risk assessments take place, overseeing H&S investigations and follow up actions when required.
  • Develop and roll out training across the Company with appropriate materials.
  • Holding H&S and wellbeing related group and one to one meetings with staff.
  • Working with HR to implement a strategy for continual improvement in the Company’s safety and wellbeing, performance, and practices.
  • Maintain effective relationships internally and work towards raising the profile of health and safety.
  • Communicating efforts the business is making in looking after the safety and wellbeing of the workforce.
  • Staying up to date with H&S legislation.
  • Conducting research and liaising with external companies as required.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Health and Safety Specialist (or similar).
  • NEBOSH Qualified.
  • Strong people skills, with a genuine interest in training and coaching.
  • Highly compliance-orientated, ethical and confidential.
  • Confident decision maker with a solution orientated mind-set.
  • Collaborative in approach, with the ability to get staff at all levels enthusiastic about health and safety.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • A Mental health first aid qualification would be desirable, but is not essential.
