Job Description

Our industry-leading client manufactures large scale sterilisation equipment for healthcare, biotechnology and research applications. Due to continued business success, the business is looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their experienced team. The Field Service Engineer carries out equipment installation and commissioning, routine planned maintenance visits, responds to breakdowns and performs periodic testing and calibrations as and when required. This is a key frontline role responsible for providing high-quality technical expertise and meeting customers’ installation, service and repair needs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist other Service Engineers where applicable and deputise in their absence
  • Develop and maintain ongoing business relationships with clients
  • Identify opportunities for additional business and communicate with Head Office
  • Ensure all service visits and activities are completed on time, within set budgets and in accordance with the company Quality Management System, Health and Safety Policy and other relevant statutory requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentary evidence of works and processes carried out in accordance with the Companies ISO9001 / EN13485 Quality Management System

The role requires the individual to competently carry out duties involving numerous specialities including:

  • Electricity – 3 phase switchgear, contactors, motors/motor starters, pumps, solid-state relays, heaters, field wiring, overload and short circuit protection, emergency stop systems, 24VDC power supplies
  • Control systems – PLC programming, PLC hardware i.e. digital and analogue I/O modules, limit switches, pressure switches, pressure sensors, RTD temperature sensors, HMI’s, switchgear, relays and safety interlocks etc
  • Steam – pressure vessels, steam distribution, ancillary components i.e. pressure reducing valves, safety relief valves, steam condensate traps and separators, strainers and process control valves
  • Pneumatics – actuators, pilot valves, solenoid valves, airline ancillaries i.e. regulators, separators and air compressors
  • Water – storage tanks, float and level switches, flow control valves

Key Skills/Experience

  • Sound mechanical/electrical knowledge – preferably time served with a recognised apprenticeship and /or qualifications
  • Clear understanding and application of safe isolation practices (steam and electricity)
  • Self-motivated with excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Experience in the installation, maintenance, testing, fault diagnosis and repairs of autoclaves, washer disinfectors, steam generators and associated decontamination equipment
  • A positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Ability to work equally as well on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Competent user of IT / computer equipment
  • Willing to undertake professional development training as required
  • Must have a valid UK Driving Licence

Additional Information

  • This is a full time, permanent position with the normal working hours of Monday to Friday 8.00 – 5.00
