Job Description

Our client is a successful manufacturing company, based in Banbury. Due to continued success, the business is now looking to acquire the services of Specifications Technologist to support their Quality and Technical Team. The purpose of this role is to ensure the legal and policy compliance of all label finished products, managing the recipe & product of the specification population and provide technical support for the timely delivery of projects.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Food Legislation and is knowledgeable of Technical Legislation & Retailer IT Systems. Main responsibilities:

  • Ensure the recipe & product specification data base is accurate and up to date.
  • Complete own label product specifications on customer’s web-based systems and support the integration of branded products on these systems where required.
  • Ensure full compliance and accuracy, and sign-off technical and legal elements of pack designs and check and approve technical and legally required information on packs for own label & branded products.
  • Generate accurate technical pack copy information (ingredient declaration, nutrition information, allergen warnings) from recipe and specification details for own label & branded products. This information needs to be provided to originations or customers, often to meet tight deadlines for printing.
  • To be responsible for sign-off (approval or rejection) of artwork designs for legal compliance.
  • Complete own label product specifications on relevant web-based systems.
  • Respond to customer technical, nutritional and food issue related queries. Complete documentation as required.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide support to the NPD team in the absence of the QA Manager and provide technical information/ advice for projects as required.
  • Support the Sales & Commercial team to ensure they have the information they need for tender documents and customer technical queries.
  • Liaise with major retailers & other customers as necessary via e-mail, telephone, or in person in order to ensure their technical queries are answered.
  • Reviewing supplier risk assessments and updating expired certificates and self-assessment questionnaires as required.
  • Liaise with our suppliers e.g., QA Manager, Specifications Manager – as necessary via post, e-mail or telephone in order to ensure that we are provided with the technical information and assurances required.
  • Support all activities relating to HACCP and Internal audit programmes, with particular attention to any chain of custody programmes e.g., RSPO.
  • Deputises in the absence of the QA manager for Specification and supplier review for NPD,
  • Maintaining supplier portals. Barcodes, VIS, QAS, BOM’s

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Good communication and relationship building skills.
  • Good numeracy and literary skills
  • Time management and ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
  • Computer Literate
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to change.
  • Experience in Food Manufacturing Legislation
  • Working in a time pressured environment and often to tight deadlines, provide accurate information and advice as required by Retailers, Marketing, Factory Technical, Product Development, Sales.
  • Detailed knowledge of Technical Legislation & Retailer IT Systems. The specification system used by the team is the primary source of product, ingredient, and supplier information.
  • It is essential for legal compliance, specification management and the transfer of technical data to retailer customers which forms part of the contract with them
