Job Description

Our client is a well-established and respected Legal Firm in the local area who pride themselves on their collaborative and friendly team environment which offers a real ‘family feel’. The firm is now looking to recruit a Legal Assistant to join their Commercial Debt Recovery Team. This team is made up of staff who have worked for the business for a long time, and who are known for being the best team at what they do, so it is really important for them to find someone who is as committed to providing an exemplary customer service as they are!

The purpose of the role is to provide administrative and telephony support to their client base and internal team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working in a debt recovery team, and/or have experience working in a legal support role. This role would suit a friendly, professional, and highly organised individual who is looking for the opportunity to learn and develop their skill set and wider career. Responsibilities:

  • Answering telephone calls and maintaining a professional tone even when faced with conflict and/or difficult conversations.
  • Taking new instructions from clients and following up with all associated administrative processes. This includes setting up the clients on a system and issuing letters.
  • Preparing and monitoring existing client matters/cases, to include entering Judgments, instructing bailiffs and high court enforcement agents.
  • Accurate and timely completion of correspondence and Court documents.
  • Ensuring diaries are up to date and that clients have been chased for issues, judgment, enforcement etc.
  • Keeping up to date knowledge on Court costs and Solicitor’s costs and advising clients on costs at each step when required.
  • Issuing third-party debt orders and all associated documentation to the court
  • Informing clients of the best way to proceed on matters and providing the costings of these and discussing the process and answering their queries.
  • Handle sometimes difficult conversations with the debtors and with the client.
  • Be able to identify vulnerable debtors and handle the file appropriately.
  • Maintaining a good rapport with clients and attending client meetings when required.

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience working in a legal support or debt recovery role.
  • Customer focused with a helpful attitude and ability to handle difficult conversations.
  • Attention to detail and highly organised approach to administration processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to empathise.
  • Keenness to learn and develop skills.
  • Team Player ethos.
  • Experience of using the Proclaim Case Management System would be advantageous, but not essential.
