Regulatory Retail Manager

Job Description

Our Client is a growing retail business offering everyday grocery and household items to a dedicated customer base. The business specialises in delivering these goods and services through a global network, and in turn, gives back financially into the community through charities and schools. Due to an internal restructure and future growth plans, the business is looking to recruit an experienced Regulatory Retail Manager to ensure that all trading and health/safety compliance is monitored and adhered to. The successful candidate will have knowledge around trading compliance across fresh and frozen foods, alcohol and all associated labels and packaging.

The successful candidate will work in a small, internal, central services team, and build relationships with external specialist consultants for any external advice or guidance that may be required. You will have demonstrable experience working within a busy retail environment, enjoy working with a variety of stakeholders at all levels and have strong commercial acumen.

Main responsibilities:

• Identify product regulations and advise on product and label compliance.
• Maintain labelling policies and procedures for special diets (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc.)
• Conduct risk-based monitoring reviews to ensure the stores comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
• Responsible for regulatory reporting to comply with the conditions of authorisation under the local national competent authority and applicable corporate laws.
• Create detailed and professional reports for the Senior Management Team.
• Ownership of food registration and food audits.
• Ensuring all alcohol licences are compliant.
• Ensure all health and safety procedures and audits are up to date.
• To set up, maintain and develop administrative systems, processes and procedures.
• Investigating and answering formal complaints, enquiries and requests for information.
• To supervise and train store workers when required.
• Update compliance and keep abreast of any industry changes or new market behaviour.
• Manage the onboarding of new suppliers and all associated documentation.
• Assisting with practical changes to accommodate new legal or regulatory requirements.
• Maintaining local compliance policies, procedures, records and general record-keeping.
• Undertaking Compliance risk assessments and planning to ensure that the company is in compliance with relevant rules and regulations.
• Conducting trade surveillance and monitoring – including ad hoc investigations, as required – as part of the store’s compliance monitoring programme.
• Developing and maintaining a proactive relationship with the stores.
• Communicating with regulatory authorities.

Key Skills and Experience:

• Previous professional experience in a trading/compliance role within a retail environment.
• Sound knowledge of UK regulation, procedures and processes surrounding food, alcohol, packaging and labelling.
• Knowledge of established techniques, procedures and requirements concerning food service operations.
• Previous experience working with health and safety.
• Developing strong, trusted relationships with both suppliers, staff and customers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Excellent written and verbal presentation skills.
• Interest in process improvement to drive business performance.
• Hands-on with a can-do attitude.
