Job Description

Our client is a well-established and respected Legal Firm in the local area, who due to continuous growth, is now looking to recruit an experienced Legal Secretary into their Family Team on a 3-month fixed term contract. The purpose of the role is to provide administrative and secretarial support to the fee-earner and wider team. It is essential that the successful candidate has a strong administrative background within a professional or corporate environment and has strong and accurate audio-typing skills. This role would suit a diligent and organised individual who is looking for longevity within their next role, and in return, our client will offer a close-knit, family feel environment with a supportive and flexible working culture.

Please note: This is a Part Time role (22.5 hours per week / 3 days)

Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking typing and secretarial work within the Family Department for multiple Fee Earners but also assisting when needed across the Department as part of the Family support team
  • Handling of and dealing with clients’ calls and liaising with Fee Earners where appropriate, although no legal advice may be given
  • Seeing clients in Reception
  • Making appointments for clients
  • Conflict checks on new clients
  • Locating files for next day’s appointments and passing to Fee Earner
  • Preparing case files for court hearings
  • Maintaining filing systems
  • Providing general administration tasks, as and when required
  • Attending Family Department Support Meetings and Firm Wide Meetings
  • Provide reception cover as required
  • Preparing accurate invoices and cost scheduling for clients on a monthly basis under Fee Earner supervision/instructions
  • Maintain and protect client confidentiality at all times internally and externally

Skills & Experience:

  • Confident and accurate audio typing skills
  • Previous experience in a Law Firm – Family Department exposure is highly desirable
  • Strong organisational and administration skills
  • Ability to handle heavy workloads in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer Literate – confident user of MS (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Friendly and approachable with a team player ethos and customer orientated approach
