Job Description

Our client is an established network of independent schools operating within a for-profit education environment, who are striving to contribute and encourage young people to achieve their full potential and enable them to go on to enjoy the best prospects. This is a highly dynamic, passionate and ambitious organisation who have the expertise required to lead outstanding learning across their schools. The organisation is looking to recruit a HR Manager to lead best in class people strategies that support the organisation to achieve its vision, mission and strategic goals. The successful candidate will work in a stand-alone capacity to drive capability and colleague engagement, in addition to supporting the group when HR related issues arise. The ideal candidate will be a strong HR Generalist who is flexible and pragmatic in approach, with prior experience working in the education sector or similar.

Please note: This is a full-time role (likely working hours 8:30am – 5:30pm Monday to Friday- with some flex). The head office is based in Great Tew, Oxfordshire, so the successful candidate must live within a realistic commuting distance this location with their own transport. The role will be office based on a Monday, with 2 days working at their sites and 2 days homebased. The schools/nurseries are mainly located in Oxfordshire, London and the South.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the effective delivery of operational People support across the Group.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with colleagues and site-based stakeholders.
  • Providing sound HR advice, coaching and/or training to employees at all levels.
  • Act as point of escalation for Employee Relations cases, ensuring legal compliance is continually being met coupled with a drive to create solutions to resolve issues.
  • Actively work to ensure all activities incorporate a focus on promotion of equality and diversity, including collating and analysing data.
  • Propose and implement solutions to people challenges, which in turn will assist managers and improve staff experience/retention.
  • Develop and implement the operational plan to deliver the group’s people strategy.
  • Support with Group Recruitment.
  • On-boarding new starters and overseeing appropriate VISA/RTW checks.
  • Ongoing Performance Management.
  • Act as the ambassador for company culture across the organisation.
  • Working closely with the Director of Learning and Teaching, develop an effective performance management system ensuring that organisational values are translated into measurable competencies, behaviours and objectives, and that appraisals are carried out accordingly.
  • Lead on the Mental Health & Wellbeing Strategy, holding regular meetings with site-based stakeholders.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of working within a generalist HR role at mid-senior level, in either a stand-alone capacity or within a small team.
  • Experience working within the Education Sector is highly desirable (or similar sectors, such as health and social care).
  • Sound knowledge of current HR legislation.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take responsibility for own actions and make decisions with minimal direction.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to establish working relationships with varying personalities.
  • Ability to influence and establish credibility with stakeholders at all levels in order to deliver effective results from a people perspective.
  • Good level of IT skills (Microsoft Office products).
