Job Description

Our client is a global leader in the medical device manufacturing sector, with over 9 decades of developing products and solutions. They partner with surgeons to improve the lives of millions of patients across the globe in more than 115 countries worldwide. Due to impressive growth, they are now looking to acquire the services of an experienced Production Manager. The successful candidate will report to the Plant Director and will have s full accountability for the Operational Performance (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) of all production areas on site. The candidate will assume leadership of all production lines, producing more than 6m units per year. You will be responsible for a headcount in excess of 160 associates comprising of Team leaders, Cell Leaders, and Production Operatives.

Production Manager Main Responsibilities:

  • You will be accountable for leading the development of a large, high-performing team to create a centre of excellence
  • Lead and drive change management initiatives to achieve the above.
  • Responsible for implementation, monitoring and improve performance of the department utilising Key Performance Indicators and other performance measures that are agreed and set by the Plant Director and Senior Management Team in relation to Safety, Quality, Delivery Performance and Cost across the end-to-end manufacturing process, working collaboratively at all times.
  • Support production planning through the forward planning of personnel and resources and optimised sequencing of production.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all production associates are fully trained to meet the skills necessary to fulfil the requirements of their job description. Continually review training to meet future production demands in line with targets.
  • Support the Plant Director and Engineering Manager to introduce concepts that will promote efficient and effective operations with assistance if required from the Engineering Team.
  • Responsible for ensuring a high level of staff discipline, and that control is maintained in all production areas sections to prevent errors and to ensure compliance and improve efficiencies and lean methodologies.
  • Management of all aspects of material movement and handling within the Warehouse facility
  • Ensure that all Preventative maintenance, shift start and close, 5s activities are carried out on time in full.
  • Maintain and use appropriate data capture systems, enabling in-depth analysis of performance.
  • Have oversight of quality metrics for the operations team ensuring deviations, change controls, CAPA’s are resourced appropriately and closed on time.
  • Expand the reach across sites to develop relationships and Best Practice.

Production Manager Key Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have a technical qualification to a degree level (Chemical / Mechanical Engineering, Food Processing/Engineering or equivalent)
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferable
  • Relevant Management Qualification or proven experience
  • Considerable ability to drive a strong safety culture.
  • Have excellent planning, organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Self-motivated with strong initiative and drive with a passion for delivery.
  • Substantial experience in an Operations Management position, preferably within a Medical Device or similar environment.
  • Sound working knowledge of GMP
  • Must have a strong understanding of the end to end manufacturing process.
  • Has successfully led Continuous improvement projects and managed the change and transition process with teams of people.
  • Good commercial acumen and understanding of financial concepts.
  • Ability to deal with an ever-changing fast-paced environment, making quick sound decisions, prioritising and driving changes to the operation in real-time.

Additional Information:

  • The role is demanding and requires flexibility in terms of changing working hours when required to support specific shifts and the 24/7 nature of the operation. This is not a standard 9-5 role and it comes with an expectation of often working longer hours where required.
  • May require occasional travel, including international travel if required.
